SIFM Awards 2024 Scholarship to a Student from St John’s University

Caldwell NJ —John Yoon, president of the SIFM and chief accounting officer of QBE North America, presented the SIFM 2024 Scholarship to Stephanie Kandasammy, a student at St. John’s University (New York). The award was presented at SIFM’s Quarterly Conference on December 6.

The SIFM Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship presented to a qualified student attending a top school of risk management, insurance and actuarial science who intends to seek a career in the insurance industry. Mr. Yoon noted that “this is the sixth year of our scholarship. The SIFM believes in nurturing the exchange of ideas among professionals in the insurance industry. Therefore, the SIFM Scholarship affords students the opportunity to meet professionals and executives in insurance, reinsurance and advisory firms specializing in insurance fostering an understanding of the challenges to the industry.”

Mr. Yoon applauded Ms. Kandasammy for her dedication to her studies in the risk management and insurance program at St. John’s University. She will graduate in May 2025 with a GPA of 3.97. Stephanie is majoring in risk management and insurance and minoring in business analytics. Her expressed interest is in finance and economics.

She is involved in several societies and working while completing her studies. Stephanie is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, the Economics & Finance Society, the Financial Management Association and Women of Wall Street. She has also been awarded the St. John’s University Provost Scholarship and the SRM Legacy Endowed Scholarship.
